Joynt Scroll is the most prestigious of the three national debating tournaments, having been contested since its inception in 1902. It is the only one of the tournaments that is fully prepared and so has a higher emphasis on comprehensive and well structured cases and arguments.

Joynt Scroll is also unique in that it is the tournament with the longest speaking times; ten minutes per speaker. Joynt rotates among the various campuses and this year will be hosted by Otago University Debating Society in Dunedin some time during the mid-semester break of the second semester.

The Society has won the Joynt Scroll in 1910, 1920, 1930, 1936, 1956, 1957, 1973,  1974, 1975, 1989, 1995 and most recently in 2005.
