The Australian Women’s Parliamentary Debating Championships is a British Parliamentary style competition attended yearly by some of the best female debaters from across Australia and beyond. There is a requirement that each team contain at least one novice, and the tournament has a strong focus on providing a comfortable and friendly environment to develop debating skills amongst female debaters. Nevertheless it is an exceptionally competitive tournament.  Many of the best debaters from Women’s can also be seen amongst the award recipients at Australs and Worlds.

In the past Auckland’s attendance at Australian Women’s has been minimal, but in 2009 we sent two teams, with one of those teams (consisting of Steph Thompson and Gretta Schumacher) breaking to the semi-finals.  This year we are even more on top of things with three teams travelling to Sydney for the 2010 Championships.  Watch this space for results, and get in contact with us if you’re keen to come in 2011!
